What we look for in a host family is an obvious understanding of dog care, a safe yard or exercise area, somewhere warm and cosy for dogs to sleep, and the ability to offer a continuation of their home life routines and habits for exercise, feeding and sleeping - so you’ll need to be at home during the day. A variety of people become hosts, including the following:

  • retired or semi-retired persons
  • those who work from home
  • homemakers; both younger and older
  • people with or without children or pets

Unlike other forms of dog-sitting, you needn’t disrupt your home routine. Unlike looking after a friend’s dog while they’re away, with Hounds On Holiday you can rely on full support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including delivery and collection. In providing home-from-home dog holidays as an alternative to boarding kennels or pet-sitting, you’ll also be supplying a much appreciated service to fellow dog lovers.

When you apply, we will visit you for an initial interview and a home inspection. We’ll discuss the type of dogs you’d like to look after, as well as your availability. Then, if your application is successful, as soon as we have a dog that we feel would be well suited to you, we will contact you well in advance. You can specify the type of dog you prefer to look after and how often you would be able to do so. The dog's family will provide all necessities for the dog's stay, including their supply of food.

We keep in touch with you throughout the dog’s stay and, of course, if you need advice or assistance at any time, your local Hounds On Holiday representative is there to help. You will also receive a host handbook, complete with animal behavior information and first aid advice. Successful applicants will be asked to sign a Host Family Agreement. Our fantastic host families really are the heart of home-from-home dog care.

If you miss the companionship around the house, the exercise and the sheer sociability of dog-walking, or if you think your kids and pets would welcome a bit of company, why not consider joining our friendly network of host families? We’d love to hear from people just like you!
